The Process

Glass art using copper foil is a meticulous process that involves five stages:
Stage 1: Create a Design
Begin by designing your artwork. Ensure that your design features clear lines, with pieces that are not too small. This will help facilitate smooth soldering later on.
Stage 2: Cut and Grind the Glass
Carefully cut out your glass pieces and grind the edges to make them smooth.
Stage 3: Apply Copper Foil
Find a comfortable spot to start applying copper foil to your glass pieces. This is my favourite stage, as it is quite relaxing, and you can even do it while watching TV.
Stage 4: Assemble and Solder
Reassemble your design and solder the pieces together. Make sure your soldering iron is nice and hot; this will help the solder melt properly and create smooth lines.
Stage 5: Clean and Patina
Once completed, clean your design and use patina to darken the solder if desired. Alternatively, you can leave the solder silver for a different look.
Find a place with nice light and enjoy your completed piece.
